Team Meeting Notes 4/5/2009

I want to thank everyone who showed up to the meeting on Sunday! I felt that the meeting was very productive and I think the group will be heading in the right direction now! Below are the notes!

1. Defined the area that we consider NEPA and are from which we are willing to accept new members. 1 hour radius from Scranton is the new rule. Any current member that falls outside that area may still be a member as long as they understand that this means traveling to in person team meetings.

2. Create better paths of communication for the team. We will do this by creating a team e-mail newsletter, improving the blog, and creating a google group (which will allow members to get email updates on posts as frequently as the wish).

3. Define a list of responsibilities within the team, we are asking that members take over some of these. When the team responsibilities are broken down into individual tasks (someone organizes the meeting, someone watches over the blog, someone to write the newsletter) it will be easier to get more done!

4. Creating a group presence in the community. We need to participate as a group in activities!

5. Monthly etsy chat meetings & Bi-Monthly in person meetings. We will be setting up set dates (ie. the 2nd tuesday of every month at 8pm) I am looking for feedback as to times and days that work best for the team.

Ok. Basically those are the most important things right now. I want to get these things rolling before we take on anymore. I will make a separate post tomorrow with a list of responsibilities I need members to volunteer for. Also some of you will be getting an etsy convo asking for your email address for the team newsletter. I do have most of your addresses but am missing a few.

If you have any ideas, suggestion, etc. please let me know by reply to this post or emailing me. Also this is a pretty large overall with major changes, so if for any reason you feel you can no longer be a part of the team you may contact me directly.

Thank you so much!

Using Google Analytics???

I have recently added Google Analytics to my Etsy site. Some of the info I understand and some is way over my head. Etsy Virtual lab recently posted an overview of 100+ etsians discussing thissubject and posted the recap.
The big talking point concerned what Google Analytics can do for sellers. It is a powerful tool, but at the end of the day the real power comes from helping you make better decisions about your Etsy shop.
Think of Google Analytics as the pulse of your shop, with the pulse equating to the number of visitors viewing your items. A higher pulse rate means more visitors, and in general more visitors would correlate to more sales for your shop.
Over time your shop will get more or less the same amount of traffic, but what you can do is start to experiment with some basic marketing efforts and use Google Analytics as the yardstick to measure success. Marketing efforts could mean, for instance, using a better set of Etsy tags to describe your item, creating a blog, actively using services such as Twitter or Facebook, or even buying some online advertising. The key question to answer is — which marketing efforts pay off for me? By looking at Google Analytics, it can provide historical data and trending that show you how your marketing efforts drove traffic to your Etsy shop.

Ever wish you could copy a listing to relist it before it sells?

I have been hoping for Etsy to create a way to relist an item that you have duplicates of. Not an item that has sold, just an item you may have 2, 3 or 10 of. The old way has been to copy and paste, but was very time consuming. So a very thoughtful Etsian husband came up with lots of ways to make our lives easier. This is just one of many.

Here's the link to etsyhacks and the copy directions: http://etsyhacks.com/greasemonkey/copy_listing/

Don't forget to check the site out...It has other helpful options like:
copy listing - create a new listing based on an existing one.
item zoom - adds a zoom icon to images in search and shop listings.
edit this item - edit or delete a listing from the View Listing page.
buyer info - add extra information to the "buyer" box on a receipt page.
forum wrangler - add extra features to the Etsy forum pages.

Here are tools he's built using the new Etsy API to help you get more information about your shop.
RSS Feedback - get an RSS or Atom feed for your Etsy user feedback.
Where Am I? - find where you shop appears in a search.
Shop Value - how much is your inventory worth?
Shop CSV - download your current listings in CSV format to load into a spreadsheet.

Other developers are hard at work building useful things for Etsy sellers and buyers. Here are a few of them:
Heartomatic from CraftCult - see who hearts your shop and items.
Etsyfeeder - manage your favourites.
Lets Ets - Google Base formatter, and a custom Etsy search tool.
Featsy - notifcations when your products are featured.

Hope this helps to give you more free time!
